How does Preven work? What will it do for you?
Preven is most effective in the first 24 hours after intercourse.
Preven is an emergency birth control pill intended for use within 72
hours of unprotected sexual intercourse.
This medication is believed to prevent pregnancy primarily. Once implantation has
occurred and pregnancy is established, this drug cannot cause an abortion and has not
been shown to harm the fetus. No serious complications have been reported with this medication.
Use of Preven?
The Preven comes with a urine pregnancy test. Follow
the simple instructions in order to test for pregnancy. If the test is positive
(you are pregnant), do not take the medication, but call your doctor. If the
test is negative, take 2 of the 4 tablets as soon
as possible within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse. The other 2
tablets must be taken 12 hours later. If you vomit within one
hour of taking the tablets, contact Doctor. This
medication can be used at any time during the menstrual cycle. Taking it with food may help reduce the nausea.
Do NOT take Preven?
These tablets should not be taken by anyone who:
- is pregnant
- is allergic to the product or any or its components
- has undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding
- has thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic disorders (blood clots) or a past history of deep vein thrombosis
- has coronary artery disease
- has endometrial cancer or other cancers dependent on estrogen
- has undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
Possible Side effects with Preven?
The following side effects should go away over time. Check with your doctor
if the following side effects continue to be bothersome.
Common : nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, heavier menstrual bleeding, dizziness, breast tenderness
Less common :- vomiting, diarrhea

Other side effects of Preven not listed may also occur in some people. If you notice
any other effects, contact your doctor.
Other Precautions for Preven?
Breast-feeding: No adverse effects have been
found on breast-feeding, either in the milk or in the growth and development of the infant.
Blood pressure: Women with high
blood pressure that is well controlled can take this medication under medical
supervision.
Headache: Headache that is different from normal or is persistent or severe contact
doctor immediately.
Diabetes: Women with diabetes should monitor their blood glucose carefully after taking this medication.
Liver: Women with a history of liver disease should take this medication under close supervision.
